Dimitris E. Tsakayannis, M.D., Ph.D.
Dimitris Tsakayannis, M.D., Ph.D. is a founder of the Angiogenesis
Foundation, and has served on its Board of Directors. Dr. Tsakayannis
has conducted research on angiogenesis in cancer with Dr. Judah
Folkman and has made significant contributions in advancing the field
angiogenesis-based therapies in wound healing. Dr. Tsakayannis is a
specialist in the open and laparoscopic surgical treatment or
intraabdominal malignancies, and practices in Athens, Greece. He is a
nationally recognized expert in the management of diseases of the
thyroid gland, the parathyroids and the adrenals, and was Chief
Resident Associate in Surgery at the University of Massachusetts,
Boston. He has completed research and clinical Fellowships in Surgery
at Harvard Medical School and was a surgical resident at both Harvard
Medical School and Tufts University Medical School. Dr. Tsakayannis is
a member of numerous professional societies, including the American
College of Surgeons, American Medical Association, Society of American
Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), and the Athens Medical
Association. He received his M.D. summa cum laude and Ph.D. from the
University of Athens Medical School. He is a pioneer of the NOTES
procedure for removal of the appendix.
